The Valley Transit Authority (VTA) Board of Directors took a historic step last night by approving a Climate Emergency Declaration to rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase sustainable public transit options in the County. Santa Clara County Supervisors declare a climate crisis

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors declared a climate crisis Tuesday, joining dozens of Bay Area cities and counties that have pledged resources toward mitigating global warming. Supervisor Dave Cortese introduced the resolution in tandem with the county’s ongoing environmental efforts to end greenhouse gas emissions and move to 100 percent renewable electric power. The supervisors approved the resolution unanimously, with one member absent.

Decrement carbon: Stripe’s negative emissions commitment

Stripe announces its Negative Emissions Commitment: “We will seek to purchase negative CO2 emissions at any price per tCO2, starting immediately…We don’t expect to be able to sequester all of our carbon emissions, both because the relevant technologies are not yet operating at sufficient scale, and because it would be financially infeasible for Stripe. And so we commit to spending at least twice as much on sequestration as we do on offsets, with a floor of at least $1M per year.”
